I'll be frank, I always liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple of clicks and a customer can put an order with a freelancer according to a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, however, it comes at a price tag. A significant one.
That is only the very few freelance platforms at which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this post, I'd like to talk about a new bad experience for a vendor on Fiverr, and also I chose to give up on the stage altogether.
How A Regular Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I've been employing Fiverr myself (off and on ) for a little while, this specific experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her building up a reputable account, and how to go above and beyond every previous order. Everything stated is her doing, I'm only an audience )
In this case, she'd only gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which appeared to be just like any other... so we believed.
The order was straight from the source fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had included a bonus emblem concept in addition to the source file (that is usually part of the more expensive bundle ).
The client"loved" one of those concepts and so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates record sizes, as stated in the gig description.
The client came back requesting a social networking kit to choose the emblem, something that is clearly not offered as a member of her post.
Against my advice, my girlfriend chose to provide the further job, despite not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the client responded with even more requirements and some adjustments to the social networking files.
At this time, she consented enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this individual, they were clearly overstepping their bounds here.
This is when the customer went from simply overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend's Fiverr standing hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a reply and reach to Fiverr support for assistance, the client did eventually go ahead and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was Cymphony Blog - App review: Fiverr not kidding.
Soon after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the support query, the client paid an additional $10 for the social media kit.
Naturally, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.
At this point, all I wished to do was go all Liam Neeson and search this individual down so that I could punch them in the face.
But, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr support will step in and rescue my girlfriend out of this PITA client.
When the answer came back from Fiverr service, they told that they could fiverr reviews BlackHatWorld not induce the buyer to take the purchase.
Okay, that is reasonable enough. (though the purchaser accepted it.)
They also suggested drawing up a list for the purchaser to show the job was completed in accordance to the gig prerequisites.
My girlfriend communicated in her initial email that the customer was trying to extort her to get free work outside the agreed conditions, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Obviously, it wasn't about the work, it had been about seeking protection in an abusive client who was intentionally pushing their luck.
Their reply did not provide either of us any confidence that Fiverr actually knew , and even at this stage we felt as though they did not want to get involved.
At precisely the exact same time, she also responded to the buyers most recent danger, explaining that she would not continue to operate together unless the comments has been changed/removed.
(Again, this will be feedback that has been clearly and intentionally left to bully her to supplying work out the agreed conditions .)
A fair request by anyones standards, appropriate? Well, apparently not.
As opposed to acknowledge what the purchaser had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all the rules.
Because she had requested the client to change their opinions, she was no more entitled to some assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we both felt reading this.
What the purchaser had done and said prior to her final message was now being swept under the rug -- as if never happened in any respect.
Fiverr essentially chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain in an account she'd worked so hard to accumulate.
And believe me, there are plenty of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they could and will get away with it.
Well, as all this was happening, I did some investigating to determine if any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with a purchaser.
Quite quickly, I discovered a variety of nearly identical cases on the Fiverr forum obsolete years ago. (that's correct, decades.)
This is clearly something which's been happening for quite a while and it stems from providing buyers also much power over vendors.
When there's 1 thing I have learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time that you put into a project, or just how hard you worked on itor maybe how well you managed communication during a dispute, when it actually boils down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it's a very clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one little thing you"did wrong" in accordance with their own terms of support and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the signs, it's obvious to me that Fiverr is well aware of what's happening, yet is still prepared to settle back and let it happen.
A Final Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you're reading this, then I implore you to seriously reconsider your existing support procedures for freelancers.
It's not right that somebody can set all that time and effort in building up an account and also over-delivering at every conceivable opportunity, only to be taken down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I do not wish to abandon Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling people to avoid your system.
But after everything that has happened, you haven't left me any choice.
Until something is done in order to protect freelancers from using this type of abuse, I will continue to spread this article and do whatever I could to prevent others from falling prey to your one-sided support staff.
The second you really do something about this and also provide freelancers a way to fight back, I'll be happy to update this article.
